1. The University of Queensland.

Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, and Public Health are the three primary areas of education at the Medical School.

University of Queensland offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine degree at the School of Medicine’s central campus in Herston, near the Brisbane CBD.

Entry Requirements:

The following requirements are the UQ’s Doctor of Medicine. 

  • Pathway A: Students who have completed a bachelor’s degree that covers prerequisite courses for entry and provides graduates with professional health qualifications, such as nursing or dentistry, are eligible to apply
  • Pathway B: Bachelor degree that covers the prerequisite courses for entry into the Doctor of Medicine program, for example sports sciences and nutrition
  • Pathway C: Obtaining a bachelor’s degree with minimal prerequisite courses, such as an arts bachelor’s degree

Here are some of the undergraduate degrees you can take following Pathway A:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Biomedical Science
  • Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours)
  • Bachelor of Nursing

2. The University of New South Wales.

A partnership between the UNSW School of Medicine and health facilities in Sydney and regional Australia dates back to 1960.

At the Kensington Campus in Sydney’s east, the school offers an undergraduate medical program.

This degree is structured in three phrases:

  • Integrated clinical courses and Independent Learning Project (ILP)  
  • Biomedical, clinical, and social sciences
  • Clinical placements

Entry Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the University Clinical Aptitude Test (CAT) ANZ 
  • Fill out the application form – to be considered for an interview, applicants must have a minimum ATAR of 96.00
  • As soon as the ATARs are released, selected candidates will be invited for the Medicine Interview 

3. Monash University

According to the QS Top Universities Rankings 2022, Monash University School of Medicine is ranked the 3rd best medical school in Australia.  

Rankings by subject for QS Top Universities by Subject 2022 place the school 38th out of medical schools worldwide. 

Entry Requirements:

  • Students must have a score of 30 in English (English other than EAL) or 35 in English (English as an additional language) and a score of 30 in Chemistry in units 3 or 4. 
  • Applicants are selected based on UCAT scores, your ATAR, and an interview.

4. The University of Sydney.

According to QS Top Universities Rankings 2022, the University of Sydney Medical School is ranked number one in Australia. 

QS Top Universities Rankings by Subject 2022 ranked the school number 18 for medicine globally. 

Entry Requirements:

You can enter via an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

Undergraduate

It takes seven years to complete a combined Bachelor of Arts/Doctor of Medicine or combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine degree. A maximum of 30 domestic students and 10 international students are admitted per year.  

The undergraduate degree selection process is as follows:

  • Completion of the UCAT ANZ and a minimum ATAR of 99.95
  • Upon release of ATARs, selected candidates are invited for an interview 
  • Candidates complete a written assessment 

Admission requirements are:

  • Completed an undergraduate degree, minimum three years
  • Selected candidates are required to attend an interview

Postgraduate

There is an annual intake of 300 students for the four-year Doctor of Medicine program at Sydney University.

Admission requirements are:

  • An undergraduate degree of minimum 3 years.
  • Students who are selected are required to give an interview.

5. The University of Melbourne.

Australia’s School of Medicine is ranked as the 2nd best medical school in QS’s Top Universities Rankings 2022.

QS Top Universities Rankings by Subject 2022 ranks the school 20th in the world for medicine.

Entry Requirements:

Students applying for the four-year Doctor of Medicine program must meet the following requirements:

  • Have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline
  • Prerequisite studies in anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.
  • Sit the Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test (GAMSAT)
  • Submit a multi mini interview.
