Stay back option

Students can stay in the USA after completing their studies by getting (Optional Practical Training) OPT. Students need to get authorization from the USCIS and permission from the international student office. This allows students to stay for 12 months in the country. 

There are 3 types of visas that allow students to stay in the USA i.e.:

  • F1 Visa – Under this visa students can have temporary employment related to their field of study. 
  • M1 Visa – This is for students who are attending technical schools and vocational courses.
  • J1 Visa – This visa is issued to the professors, research scholars, and exchange visitors.

Working rights on student visa

Students studying in the US can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus when the program is full time. During the semester breaks or holidays students can work full-time for 40 hours per week.

Visa Conditions

Students are required to follow these rules on F1 visa:

  • A valid F1 visa is necessary
  • The employment of the student is non displaceable. 
  • 20 hours of part-time work is allowed.
  • 40 hours or full-time is allowed when students are on break.
