Visa processing time

German visas take around 6-12 weeks i.e. 4-5 months before traveling to Germany. Students need to do the research and start with applications on time so that they do not have to wait much longer. Make sure within 4-5 months of time students clear all their academic as well as entrance results.

Stay back options and work permit in Germany

Students who want to stay in Germany after completing a degree can stay up to 18 months as allowed by the German government. But during this period students are required to find a job otherwise they have to leave the country after the stay back tenure gets over. Students can take help from their colleges and professors in finding a suitable job. Learning the  German language boasts more opportunities for a student to get a job. 

If you get a permanent job in a company then you can apply for a residence permit and can receive an EU Blue card. 

Working rights on student visa

It is legal to work in Germany but with a limited time which is not extendable. 

Students who are Non-EU in Germany can work –

  • Work part-time (up to 20 hrs per week during semesters) and (964 hours annually). 
  • Full time ( 40 hrs per week during scheduled holidays)

Visa conditions

  • International students are likely to get a German student visa at a German consulate in their respective country before they fly to Germany.
  • Students who want to study for 3 months can have – Schengen visa.
  • Students who want to study in the country for more than 3 months need to have – German national visa.

Intakes

There are 3 intakes in Germany every year i.e. January, May and September.

Yes there are plenty of English programs in Germany for students who do not know German language. You need to prove your English proficiency through exams like IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, DET, etc.

Yes, you can work as an international student in both part-time jobs and full-time jobs in your suitable course. You are allowed to work for a limited number of days which is not extendable. For working in Germany self-employed and freelancers do not count.

As a foreign student you can live in university hostels, German halls of residence, shared flats, and private apartments.
